Estimation and inference in two-stage, semi-parametric models of production processes

چکیده
Many papers have regressed non-parametric estimates of productive efficiency on environmental variables in two-stage procedures to account for exogenous factors that might affect firms’ performance. None of these have described a coherent data-generating process (DGP). Moreover, conventional approaches to inference employed in these papers are invalid due to complicated, unknown serial correlation among the estimated efficiencies. We first describe a sensible DGP for such models. We propose single and double bootstrap procedures; both permit valid inference, and the double bootstrap procedure improves statistical efficiency in the second-stage regression. We examine the statistical performance of our estimators using Monte Carlo experiments. r 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. JEL classification: C1; C44; C61

Determination of right/left return to scale in two-stage processes based on dual simplex
As a non-parametric method of relative efficient measurement of a group of decision-making units (〖DMU〗_s), Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is one of the most important tools in efficiency computation. One of the main concerns dealt with in DEA is dealing with return to scale in two-stage processes in which, produced outputs of the first stage inputs are used as inputs for the second stage. The...
متن کاملExact Statistical Inference for Some Parametric Nonhomogeneous Poisson Processes
Nonhomogeneous Poisson processes (NHPPs) are often used to model recurrent events, and there is thus a need to check model fit for such models. We study the problem of obtaining exact goodness-of-fit tests for certain parametric NHPPs, using a method based on Monte Carlo simulation conditional on sufficient statistics. A closely related way of obtaining exact confidence intervals in parametri...
متن کاملThe Negative Binomial Distribution Efficiency in Finite Mixture of Semi-parametric Generalized Linear Models
Introduction Selection the appropriate statistical model for the response variable is one of the most important problem in the finite mixture of generalized linear models. One of the distributions which it has a problem in a finite mixture of semi-parametric generalized statistical models, is the Poisson distribution. In this paper, to overcome over dispersion and computational burden, finite ...
متن کاملSemi-parametric estimation of the strategic goods (OPEC oil price)
In the global economy, crude oil is among the most important strategic goods that affects the performance of local and international markets. Prediction of the oil price has always been an important challenging topic in the global economy and producers and consumers have constantly been trying to improve their roll in the oil price changes and for many years OPEC has been one of the key players...
متن کاملTwo-stage Production Systems under Variable Returns to Scale Technology: A DEA Approach
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a non-parametric approach for performance analysis of decision making units (DMUs) which uses a set of inputs to produce a set of outputs without the need to consider internal operations of each unit. In recent years, there have been various studies dealt with two-stage production systems, i.e. systems which consume some inputs in their first stage to produce ...
